A room with a view in Portland, ME - post by maxyourtravel.com

It's not often that a quick, one night layover or pit stop hotel leaves a memorable impression especially when you're feeling tired or under the weather but that was exactly the case for our family on our short drive through Portland, Maine last winter.
I like to highlight unique features of some of our lodging experiences in some of my quick posts as sometimes even the most routine stay at what may seem like the most usual property may pleasantly surprise with an unexpected characteristic. Such was the case during our one night pit stop in Portland, Maine.
We were looking for something cheap and quick just for a night. You would think in that type of scenario the location wouldn't matter but we always give the preferred area in a given destination a browse first when looking for lodging. You never know what type of unexpected gem you might stumble upon and if you do end up having time why not explore an area you are interested in a bit instead of picking something random.
Doing some quick online research on Portland it seemed like the Old Port area was by far the most desirable place to anchor down for the night. Old Port's historic architecture with its cobblestone streets, brick shops, restaurants and bars full of life is what the area is known for. While we knew we wouldn't get an opportunity to explore it much since we were only stopping for a night and traveling with kids spending the night and the opportunity of a morning stroll in the Old Port was attractive enough.
We found a well priced room at the Hyatt Place Portland - Old Port and confirmed on hotels.com map that it was well located in the center of Old Port. Arriving fairly late at night confirmed the hotel location was in the heart of the action as bars seemed to still be full of life. The inside of the hotel, including the lobby has a modern feel to it, reminiscent more of business accommodations but was very neat and had a pleasant atmosphere including some subtle Christmas decorations which is always nice to see during the holiday season.
The decor style continued in our room which was a sizeable space with a king bed and a fold out sofa. Perfect size and layout to accommodate a family of two adults and two kids. Excuse the photos of the bed and sofa. The hubs was sick and we were all so tired getting into the room that we didn't snap any pics right away but I wanted to include them to show the size of the folded out sofa as well as the bed and its set-up with a partial divider from the rest of the room.
A nice room overall that had all of the standard amenities but what prompted me to write this post isn't the inside of the these quarters but rather what hid behind the balcony door. Our room was apparently one of multiple at this property with spectacular panoramic views of the Old Port. The spacious balcony was by far the most unique feature of our room and fully worth booking a stay at this property for the sole reason of enjoying the views of Portland and its awesome sunsets. With that said I will just let you judge that for yourselves:
The hotel has plenty of other great amenities like a 24/7 gym and food market so whether you're a business traveler or planning on spending some vacation time in Old Port there are other reasons to chose Hyatt Place. This includes a close walking vicinity to shops, restaurants and bars in the area immersed in this district's charming brick architecture. We did by the way get to confirm that for ourselves with a morning walk the next day after all.
So if you plan to visit Portland for longer or are just passing by, especially this holiday season give Hyatt Place Old Port, its solid amenities and especially the awesome added attraction of its rooms with a view a try. You can book the hotel here. We wish we had more time to hang out in this charming area and in our hotel room and especially on that balcony. It may be a bit chilly but that's nothing a beautiful view of a sunset and a hot chocolate can't fix. Let's just say we will definitely be back soon Portland Maine for a for a visit this beautiful town truly deserves from us and a longer, proper stay this Hyatt property should really be afforded.
